Monetization Got Smarter: Automatic Manual Reviews
No more battling the yellow dollar alone. YouTube is now automatically reviewing videos that get flagged with limited ads — no appeal needed.
What’s changing:
- Videos that receive the yellow icon may now get sent for manual review automatically
- If your content is clean, it flips to green — hands-free
- If it stays yellow, it’s likely a legit call
- Reviews can take up to 24 hours, so plan ahead
You can upload your videos as Private or Unlisted, wait for the final monetization decision, and only then hit “Publish.”
This update is rolling out slowly — but it's a major stress reducer for creators.
Side-by-Side Mid-Roll Ads for Streams
Good news for live creators: mid-roll ads no longer pause your stream. They now play next to your stream, keeping viewers engaged while monetization rolls in.
- Your stream keeps playing (muted), while the ad shows beside it
- Once the ad finishes (or is skipped), the stream audio returns
- No complete interruption, just a momentary mute
This format mirrors Twitch’s ad display and is a welcome step toward less disruptive monetization for livestreamers.

- Based on watch time from U.S. viewers
- Only full-length podcast playlists are counted (no Shorts/clips)

AI-Powered “Peak Point” Ads Are Coming
During BrandCast 2025, YouTube revealed that they’re testing emotionally timed ads.

Yes, it’s disruptive. But also, smart monetization.
Expect creators to get access to “Peak Points” data in Studio soon. This will change how you script and pace your content — especially for high-stakes moments.
Voice Replies to Comments
New way to connect with fans: voice replies are now in testing.
- A small test group on Android can now reply to comments with 30-second voice messages

No More “Revert to Original” in Studio
Starting June 2025, YouTube will remove the option to undo edits like blurs, trims, or audio changes.
- If you edit in YouTube Studio, those changes are permanent
- There’s no “Revert” button anymore
- You must keep original backups outside YouTube

Google Lens Comes to Shorts
YouTube is testing Google Lens inside Shorts — and it's something big for discovery-driven content.
How to use it:
- Pause a Short
- Tap “Lens” from the top menu
- Tap, highlight, or draw over what you see
- Get instant Google search results on-screen
From outfit inspo to brand placements to landmark discovery — this unlocks a whole new layer of value for Shorts creators.
Note: Lens doesn’t work on Shorts with shopping links or paid product placements (for now).

- Mini Player Dismiss: you can now swipe away the mini player on mobile. Premium users still get background audio, others get pause-on-dismiss
